Herman Liebes was an established importer & manufacturer of furs in San Francisco, CA in 1864. His use of sea otter fur trim in 1893-1894 season catalog became highly controversial however also brought enough attention to put laws in place for the protection of otters that were then on the brink of extinction.
H. Liebes & company was one of the most aggressive, well connected leaders in the fur trade during their time.
