    Description

Each year Syria Shrine Temple produced a glass to commemorate the Imperial Council Session that they were to attend. These glasses were sold and traded much like today's baseball cards and pins and were the most sought after collectibles at these conventions. Syria Temple commissioned Westmoreland Glass Co. and United States Glass Company to produce a different glass each year with a "theme" suited to the city that they were visiting.
The year this champagne glass was made the Imperial Session was held in New Orleans, LA, so the theme consisted of hand-painted alligators climbing up the stem on an iridescent bowl (at that time Louisiana was considered to be in the swamp) and a high-relief of King Neptune on the bowl (New Orleans was already famous as the Mardi Gras town).

On one side of the antique champagne glass is the Syria Shriners logo above "PITTSBURGH, PA." The opposite side features the face of King Neptune wearing a crown with "APRIL 1910" on either side and "NEW ORLEANS" above. In between both those sides the feature are alligators climbing up from the stem.
Whether it's a vintage champagne glass, wine glass, sherbet glass or goblet, this is in really great condition, especially considering its age is now 112 years old. This unique, rare glass would be an excellent addition to any collection or simply for displaying on its own. It's approx. 4.5" tall with a rim diameter of approx. 3.75".
